I've been fixing things since I was a kid. Pipes, drywall, wiring. Whatever broke, I figured out how to fix it. I dropped out of high school, and nobody handed me anything after that.
I spent about nine years in emergency-response hazmat. I earned my license and worked my way up to supervisor, foreman and hazmat manager. I speak Spanish, so I was the guy who could run a Spanish-speaking crew and still answer to English-speaking bosses.
Around 30, I started my own construction company. For more than twenty years I framed houses, ran electrical and plumbing, built kitchens, did whole-house remodels, and kept apartment buildings running. I taught myself almost all of it. On the side, I did card and magic tricks in bars. Doing that night after night taught me how to persuade people.
At 40, the high school dropout went to college. I carried a 4.0 the whole way, got the top grade in my computer science class, and learned to draw and paint in oil.
Then it all came apart. My two business partners died within months of each other. An injury put me in the hospital and ended my construction career for good. The company folded and the buildings got sold. I moved to Tennessee and started over from zero, with no safety net.
I couldn't swing a hammer anymore. But I've never walked off a job I didn't finish, and I wasn't about to start with my own life. So I did what I've always done: I figured it out. I learned sales. I learned marketing. And at 53, off YouTube videos, I taught myself AI.
Today I run my business with an AI crew I built myself. It has more than 170 AI workers, with foremen who check the work, set up the same way the job sites I used to run were. I build websites for local trades businesses. Every product on this site was built by a Gen Xer, with AI.
I don't sell anything I haven't personally tested. If it's on this site, I built it, used it, and it worked for me before I ever put a price on it.
Framing on the deck, back in the day.
